Knight Academy AEDY Program

For the 2024-25 school year, there are several important updates to the Knight Academy Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth (AEDY) program. These changes aim to enhance the educational experience for all students, and they are in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requirements.

Program Review and Transition

The PDE requires that we conduct a review of each student’s progress after 45 days in the Knight Academy AEDY program. This review will determine whether the student is ready to transition back to the traditional high school environment. Our goal is to support each student's growth and ensure they are placed in the most suitable educational setting possible.

New Academic Schedule

For the 2024-25 academic year, the Knight Academy AEDY program will implement a revised schedule that both fulfills state requirements and aligns more closely with our regular high school day. The school day will now begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m. Additionally, students will participate in six classes instead of five. This adjustment allows for the inclusion of elective courses and opportunities for credit recovery, providing a more comprehensive educational experience.

Cell Phone Collection

Cell phones can cause significant disruptions to student learning. To minimize distractions and enhance the learning environment, the district is exploring ways to manage cell phone usage during school hours. With that goal in mind and to meet PDE AEDY program requirements, we will collect all cell phones as students enter the school.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we implement this change.

Alternative Options

Students who do not wish to continue in the Knight Academy AEDY program have the option to request admittance into the district’s cyber program. This alternative is available pending administrative approval and is designed to accommodate diverse learning preferences and needs.

More information about our cyber program is available.
